Safe flow velocity — static electricity
A filling velocity criterion that prevents static charge accumulating in low-conductivity liquids.
Filling a low-conductivity liquid too quickly generates static charge that can ignite vapours. The criterion limits the flow velocity according to the pipe diameter.
Demonstration scenario
Bottom filling, 100 mm diameter, conductivity 8 pS/m
The liquid
- Electrical conductivity
- 8 pS/m
- Classification
- Flammable liquid
The system
- Internal diameter
- 100 mm
- Design velocity
- 3.5 m/s
- Filling method
- Bottom filling
- The criterion depends on the liquid's conductivity, on the diameter and on how it is filled. Top filling is more onerous than bottom filling.
- The Israeli procedure does not address this subject; the source is external to it.

The vd or v²d criterion and the conductivity condition depend on a source we do not hold. The Israeli procedure does not address the subject.
We currently have no legitimate route to obtain the document.
Until the source is obtained, the tool shows the interface and the calculation steps, and presents no regulatory value.
